Pendant vs necklace
Pendant necklace by Floa Design
Pendant vs necklace — what’s the difference? Although often used together, these terms describe different parts of jewellery:
- Necklace: Jewellery that is worn around the neck. It can be a simple chain, band, or cord. It may or may not have a pendant.
- Pendant: The hanging element attached to a necklace (from Latin pendere — “to hang down”). It is the decorative part, not the entire piece of jewellery.
Pendant necklace: A necklace with a sculptural, heavier piece on a longer chain. Designed to catch the eye and draw attention. Often the focal point of an outfit and a true conversation starter.
Charm necklace: A necklace with a small, symbolic piece attached to a shorter chain. These charms often hold personal or sentimental meaning for the wearer.
