Filigree jewellery is a perforated surface design with intricate details. Often, in traditional jewellery, it looks like lace. Perforation is created during the construction process. Thin metal strips are layered and curved to create openings. This method creates lightweight jewellery. The filigree technique should not be confused with Ajouré. With Ajouré, holes are created by punching solid metal. The filigree technique requires a lot of skill and experience. That’s why filigree jewellery is often more expensive and harder to find.
